Some residents of Harris County Municipal Utility District 383 (HCMUD 383) had experienced higher bills than expected during the hotter months last year due to the increase in the North Harris County Regional Water Authority (NHCRWA) fees that were imposed on April 1, 2019. HCMUD 383 posted a notice about those rates on April 3, 2019.
It is important to know that this fee does not come from the District and is part of the NHCRWA overall plan to convert North Harris County residents to 80% or more surface water usage by 2035.
As a reminder to residents in HCMUD 383, The North Harris County Regional Water Authority (NHCRWA) is a governmental entity created by the Texas Legislature that assists in converting the region within its boundaries from using groundwater to predominantly surface water in order to combat subsidence, the sinking of land due to water being pumped out of the earth below it. The District had posted a more detailed article about the NHCRWA in November 2018.
